Shakespeare revisited

Status:Active, open to new members
Convenor:
When: Monthly on Thursday afternoons 3:00 pm
3rd Thursday of the month
Venue: The Plough, Lordship Lane

We discuss modern writers’ adaptations of Shakespeare’s plays (for example setting Lear as a wealthy landowner in Iowa and Macbeth as Chief of Police). We attend some theatre events (inexpensive seats) where friends can join so everyone feels comfortable getting home. We watch the TV adaptation of the Hollow Crown series of history plays starring some of the UK’s finest actors. We read and/or watch the historical plays and tragedies as well as the comedy plays and compare how accurately they represent history and how Shakespeare shapes our views. All Shakespeare fans welcomed!
