How groups work

Who runs the groups?

Groups are run by convenors, all volunteers. Convenors organise group meetings, source venues, consult and decide on dates and times, and keep in touch with their group members.

Some convenors are experts or knowledgeable about a particular topic and lead discussions or activities, e.g. creative writing. Others are good organisers and administrators and keep their groups active and engaged. We aim to create a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment that is accessible and comfortable for all.

When and where do they meet?

Some groups meet every week, some less frequently. Some group meetings are held at Rosebery Lodge in Dulwich Park, at Rocca di Papa in Dulwich Village, at the East Dulwich Picturehouse Café and at other public venues.

Others are hosted by convenors and group members in their homes, so please respect their privacy.

Others are held outdoors such as walks, cycling and cultural visits. Access for those with reduced mobility may vary across the different venues but every effort is made to enable people to participate – convenors will be able to advise.

Joining a group

To join a particular group, please contact the Interest Group Coordinators (IGCs) in the first instance and they will forward your enquiry to the right person, generally the convenor. Once you become a member you will receive a copy of the Directory of Interest Groups, which has full details on how to contact specific groups.

To avoid disappointment, please don’t attend a group without checking with the convenor or IGCs first.

Sometimes, groups may be full and you may have to join a waiting list until a vacancy arises. Or you could even consider starting a group yourself! Support is available every step of the way.
